Better America?

In the 1890’s America is making a few changes in this country. Elections and voting are becoming a huge thing in America today. And a few people are wanting a right to get it.

The elections are changing into the people of America’s favor. They don’t want lawmakers making the vote for them any longer. A bill was passed to make the people being able to vote instead of the lawmakers. A referendum was put into play so that the voters accepted or rejected initiative, not the legislative.

 After the people are elected they serve for a period unless they are called for a recall. This means that voters were able to remove public officials before their term is up by facing another election from the people. This was then put as the 17^th amendment, Direct Election of Senators.

 A few restrictions however were put into play these past few days. Poll taxes were used so that you had to pay a tax in order to vote. To help whites who could not pay a grandfather clause was established. Black however can not vote. For they are to poor to come up with the money, or they didn’t have a father who was able to vote.

The people of America are forming a group to help the poor of America. They call it progressivism. They are trying to protect social welfare, promote moral improvement, create economic reform, and foster efficiency.

 They aim to help through community centers, churches, and by doing social services. This group tries to help the poor and needy any chance they get. This act includes helping the women get suffrage in America. They put faith in expert, and scientific principles to make the work place more efficient.

This progressivism helped children get out of child labor. Many states started to put this into action, and soon children were no longer going to work in dangerous places. These people are trying to help the poor in society and becoming quit accomplished in their work. But are not yet they want to be.

A massacre happening on a day that should be totally opposite of what happened to these poor souls.  7 members of the gang of the north side of Chicago were killed on February 14 1929. The men who killed these men are said to be by their opposing gang from the south led by Al Capone.

They were killed at 2122 North Clark Street in front of a garage. Witnesses say that they saw the seven victims were lined up and killed by men dressed up in suits and ties and two of them were dressed up like police officer. Two women saw the scene after hearing a dog barking. Wondering what was going on they looked out the window to see if anyone was in trouble. Instead of a little boy climbing up a tree they saw a dreadful sight.

These gangs should not be allowed in this country. They are just destroying this society. The congress needs to put an end to this. Deaths would be a lot smaller in this place if we would just all get along with each other. The gangs are killing people left and right, up and down, all over the place. They kill just for the pleasure of it and the police are doing nothing about it.

This country needs to be whipped clean of this disease of mass murder. To be done with of this terrible plague. To be peaceful and helpful to other people.
